Are jobs in Scotland's financial services industry mostly just for new graduates?
Cast your mind back to last year. Back in November 2011, it emerged that Morgan Stanley was going to be hiring another 250 people in Glasgow after taking another two floors at its Glasgow offices.
A brief look at Morgan Stanley's Scottish site reveals however a mere 14 jobs on offer for experienced staff, with far more emphasis given to an array of junior and summer programmes.
The implication appears to be that it may be easier to get a job at Morgan Stanley in Scotland if you're just starting your career.
Margaret Wallace, Head of Operations for Morgan Stanley in Glasgow, intimated as much when she announced the 240 new jobs in November. Glasgow was Morgan Stanley's location of choice, said Wallace because: “It had lots of quality, affordable office space, an easy commute to London and an already established financial services industry. However, most attractive of all was access to a welleducated workforce – the product of four universities and an internationally renowned business school in and around the city.”
