These two BRIC banks have been hiring in London

Given that established US and European investment banks aren’t really doing much hiring, you may want to try somewhere else.

You may want to try: BTG Pactual, or VTB.

BTG Pactual

We looked at the hiring inclinations of BTG Pactual a few weeks ago.

It’s worth looking again because the Brazilian bank has just issued its preliminary offering memorandum in advance of its IPO. This reveals hiring in London.

As shown below, BTG added 18 people in London last year. Admittedly, that’s not a lot, but BTG isn’t a big bank: it only employs 1,256 people in total. It also pays them very well. “Our average compensation is the highest of the peer group at US$412.5 thousand per employee compared to the average at the peer group of US$298.3 thousand,” BTG boasts.

In London, David Herzberg is said to be building BTG’s equities business.

VTB

Also hiring is VTB.

As the graph below, courtesy of  IMAS shows, the Russian bank has quietly been hiring in London since 2008. In 2011, it added...28 people.

Last August, VTB hired Riccardo Orcel from Bank of America. Last Saturday, the FT reported that Riccardo’s been poaching former BofA colleagues to join him.

Unfortunately, VTB doesn’t appear to be advertising any vacancies. Nor does BTG. Elsewhere, VTB has been hiring in equities. Ex-RBS staff may want to take a chance and send in their CVs.
