Singapore salaries (below the very senior level) compare even more unfavourably when you consider the cost of living. According the Mercer 2011 Cost of Living Survey, Singapore is the 8th most expensive city globally. Sydney is 14th, it says, Dublin 16th and London 18th.

The 20% top rate of income tax in Singapore does mitigate against this to some extent, however.
