The average important member of staff at Bank of Ireland is paid €240k, but the bonuses are pretty awful
Bank of Ireland has released its Pillar 3 disclosures for 2011. They contain the charts below on how much it pays it’s ‘code staff’ – key members of management risk, takers, and people in other positions of responsibility.
Out of a total staff of 13,671 at the last count, Bank of Ireland only has 121 code staff, which seems a little small. 15 are governors, 8 are in the executive committee, 27 are in key control functions, 63 are in front line roles (eg trading) and 8 are engaged in other risky activities.
In 2011, Bank of Ireland set aside €29.06m to pay its code staff, which works out at €240k a head. Interestingly, almost all of this compensation was accounted for by salaries and hardly any came in bonuses: the average code staff bonus was a comparatively meagre €14k.
