Four new Masters scholarships, each worth £5k on offer at the University of Edinburgh Business School

If you want to work in Scotland's financial services industry and are wondering which qualifications to take, the University of Edinburgh's Business School may be able to help you.

It offers an array of financial services-focused MSc courses, including specific courses in: banking and risk, carbon finance, and finance and investment. It also offers an MBA.

As of December, there were 376 Masters students at the school. According to the FT's business school ranking, the average Edinburgh alumni earned a salary of  $97k (£60.5k) three years after graduation. This is reasonable, but not so hot compared to the likes of Harvard ($180k) or the London Business School ($150k).

Unfortunately, the fees for studying at Edinburgh's business school - whilst lower than in London - are not exactly cheap. Students starting the MSc in Financial Management in September 2012 will need to pay £16k. 

With this in mind, it may interest you to learn that the school is offering four new Masters scholarships, each worth £5k.

They are: 'Interact', a scholarship for students from India, Norway, Turkey, Russia, Canada and Thailand; the Commonwealth Scholarship - a scholarship for students from commonwealth countries; a UK military scholarship for former members of the armed forces; and a student scholarship for UK citizens who completed a degree in the last three years.

The deadline for scholarship applications is 31 May. You'll need to write an essay of no more than 1,000 words on the following topic:

'Describe your determination to complete your MSc programme and the positive contribution you believe the programme will make to your career and the global business society.'
