Big risk hiring and big changes in the capital markets business at AIB
On one hand, AIB is preparing to make 2,500 redundancies. On the other, it's building its risk and governance functions. If you want to find a financial services job in Ireland now, risk may therefore be the place to focus your job search.
AIB poached Peter Rossiter as its new chief risk officer from IBRC (formerly known as AIB). A big hitter, Rossiter previously worked at Citigroup for 27 years and was based in Moscow, Ireland and Brussels. His departure from IBRC leaves a gap that's allegedly being filled by headhunting firm Korn/Ferry International. AIB also hired a new head of internal audit, Dominic Clark, who joined from Deutsche Bank.
Meanwhile, in a possible sign of a big shake-up to come in AIB's capital markets business, Jerry McCrohan, head of the corporate, institutional and commercial banking division is leaving and will reportedly be replaced by Fergus Murphy, current CEO of EBS.
In their 2012 Irish salary survey, recruitment firm Robert Walters identified risk as a particular area of focus for recruitment in the Irish market, with particular demand for individuals with quantitative risk experience as Basel III and Solvency II drove demand.
