Neither Edinburgh nor Glasgow are as important, financially, as they used to be
Unfortunately, Scotland appears to be going down rather than up as a place of global financial importance, and by implication a location of financial services jobs. In the possible wake of all those jobs going at RBS and despite the arrival of the Green Investment Bank, both Glasgow and Edinburgh have slid down the latest Global Financial Centres Index ranking.
As the table below shows, Glasgow is now at position 41 and Edinburgh is now at 37.
This is a bit of a trend. There was a time when Edinburgh ranked 27th.
