If you're Irish and you want to make it big in hedge funds, here's your role model
Forbes' ranking of the 40 highest paid hedge fund managers globally is out.
Six are situated in Europe:
1. Alan Howard of Brevan Howard ($400m in 2011)
2. David Harding of Winton Capital management ($150m in 2011)
3. Michael Platt of BlueCrest Capital management ($125m in 2011)
4. Yan Huo of Capula Investment management ($100m in 2011)
5. Colm O’Shea of Comac Capital ($100m in 2011)
6. Anthony Todd of Aspect Capital ($70m in 2011)
Notably, Colm O'Shea, founder of London-based Comac Capital, is a 41 year old Kerryman. O'Shea's family left Ireland for Oxford when he was a child. He went on to read English at Cambridge before working for Citigroup and joining George Soros's Quantum Fund. Comac was founded in 2005.
If you want to work for O'Shea, you'll need to be lucky. Comac only employs 22 people in registered positions in London. Last year, however, it added 10 FSA registered members of staff. 3 of them were from investment banks (2 from Goldman, one from Nomura). Five were from rival funds and two hadn’t been registered in London previously.
