If you have financial services IT expertise, you are going to be very, very hot property in the Scottish employment market
As we noted a few weeks' ago, Scotland's IT graduates seem especially sought after by the country's financial services employers.
“We are seeing healthy demand for IT graduates from financial sector companies such as JPMorgan. Financial services companies are now competing with technology companies for them,” Linda Murdoch, deputy director of the careers service at Glasgow University, told us.
JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley are among those employing technologists in Scotland, with JPMorgan alone having more than 800 of them in Glasgow. Now, however, banks are going to find themselves competing against a new entrant with a shared interest in Scotland's IT talent: the Swiss financial software company Avaloq.
The company has just opened in Edinburgh, and says it will create 500 jobs over the next five years - 75 of which will be for graduates.
