A guide to which UK universities are being targeted by which investment banks in 2011. And a ranking of the most bank-friendly unis
It's milkround season! Now's the time to go to all the careers fairs and presentations that investment banks are attending/making at your university - assuming you're at one of the few universities they're actually visiting this year.
If you want to work at an investment bank, being at a targeted university makes a big difference. Networking events are very important. They're a chance to schmooze real bankers and to make the kind of lasting impression that might make someone recommend you for an interview. If you can attend an event, it could make all the difference to your chances of getting in.
On the record, banks say they're happy to receive CVs from all sorts of universities. Off the record, they only visit an elite few.
We've scoured various banks' websites to see which universities they're visiting this year - and which students (by implication) they really want to hire. We've listed the results below. Based on our research, we've also created a ranking of banks' favourite universities at the bottom of this page.
We have included any type of visit publically advertised - business games, presentations, careers fairs, dinners, and skill sessions.
Not all banks are listed, because not all banks offer a comprehensive events calendar on their website (JPMorgan's for example is looking a little thin). It may also be that some banks have finalised their campus visit schedule yet. Goldman Sachs, for example, only appears to be visiting Oxford, Bath, Imperial and Loughborough this year (Bath and Loughborough are for operations).

A ranking of banks' favourite UK universities
The universities have been ranked from highest number of visits at the top, to lowest at the bottom. This includes multiple visits from the same bank - so LSE's score of 50 is the total of all visits from all the banks included (50 visits = Citi 24 + Bank of America 1 + Deutsche 2 + RBS 16 + Morgan and Stanley 2 + Macquarie 3 + Nomura 1 + Standard 1).
