There are still some opportunities at the new Anglo venture

So long Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide Building Society (INBS), hello Irish Bank Resolution Corporation Limited (IBRC).

Employees from Irish Nationwide have transferred across to the employment of Anglo, giving the combined entity a headcount of 1,300, and initial indications suggest that they have no intention of leaving their new overlords any time soon.

In the long term, working at the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation, or Anglo 2.0 as it's been deemed, doesn't seem like a viable career option. After all, the main purpose of the merger, according to the Department of Finance memo, is to "ensure a concentrated and vigorous work out of the existing loans".

Understandably, in the current climate, there's little evidence of a sudden exodus from bank despite the fact it's being orderly wound down. However, the IBRC also doesn't seem to showing any signs of shrinking.

"A number people I'm speaking to are suggesting that there's another four or five years' worth of work remaining as the bank's assets are worked out," says one financial services headhunter. "There's definitely no exodus, but people are leaving when the right opportunity presents itself."

We've pointed previously to the fact that headcount at Anglo has largely remained stable over the last 12 months, despite the redundancies last year. However, headhunters suggest that it's also replacing people that leave.

"Obviously, there's a degree of natural attrition at the bank and there's so much turnaround work to be done that more often than not they're replacing them," says one recruitment source. "A lot of these roles are on a contract basis, however."
