Who to cold call for your summer internship
The first thing you need to accept is that you are going to have to be surgically attached to a telephone for a few days. You will need to sit in a comfy chair, with a cup of tea and plough through the list at the bottom of this page.
Why are you going to do this? Because if you are a second year student and you want to work at an investment bank when you graduate, you will need to complete a financial services internship this summer.
You are probably aware of this already. You have probably applied to various large banks and been unsuccessful. Now you're on your own.
Last week we ran an article on the art of cold calling. This, therefore, is a guide for anyone wondering who to phone.
Below are various places you can go to for names of the kinds of small and lesser known financial institutions that might be willing to take you on for a (possibly unpaid) short internship this summer.
We haven't listed the firms individually - just where you can go to find them. At this stage, it's all about leg (phone work). There's no guarantee the institutions you find will have places.
You just need to be really assertive and persuade them of your merits. Scared of the prospect? Don't worry, employers like initiative.

London Stock Exchange
The LSE is the leading exchange in the UK, and one of the most important in the world. It is a global company providing information on trades and share prices. Last year it handled trading from 3000 companies and corporations.
