Discover your dream Career
For Recruiters

What are your HR nightmares?

Since the GFC banks have been encouraging candidates to apply directly to them and not use agencies. But is this actually working out for you as job seekers?

How are you finding dealing with in-house recruitment teams at banks? Is it better, worse or about the same as relying on a recruitment consultant?

And how are you finding HR in general at your bank? Is it an efficient problem-solving department, or does it just get in the way of decision making?

Share you good and bad HR stories by emailing apac.editor@efinancialcareers.com or leaving a comment in the box below. We will publish the best comments in a separate story and ask recruitment experts what they make of your experiences.

    HR rule - not!

I applied for a job with xxxx back around November 2009.... I never heard back from them, not even so much as an email, however to this day I can access their online recruitment system to find that my application is still under review. Very poor effort! I ignore all their job advertisements these days.

HRman, you are not dating these people so using words like 'desperate' and 'stalker' shows immaturity. If you were hiring for my front line team I'd want you to put through the candidate that doesn't take no for an answer rather than the too cool for school candidate - just a thought.

The point is, don't judge, think outside the box.

As for the debate not about agencies - all this applies to you also.

I have personally experienced that neither the recruitment agencies nor the bank HR can find you a job un till you do networking and then some one puts a good word for you to the Bank HR department.

    HRMan

Please refer back to your own first para in your first post...you referred to a job seeker as a "stalker"...how is that respectful?

...it's not the sort of communication skill or mindset required in a proper HR (support) function...note the word "support"...HR is not the main game...even though sadly that is how most choose operate...note the word "choose".

Generally I don't comment on articles about poor service from recruitment/HR professionals...it's simply a fact of life....it's the common experience of most financial service professionals of my acquaintance ...I have never let it impact my own career...I do my job, achieve my targets...so take it out of the hands of HR/recruiters....success requires no explanation...and allows me time to engage in trivial banter :)

But serously, glad that you call back promptly...that would make you rather different than anyone I've experienced in 12 years (one domestic bank and three IBs)...at one IB I had to navigate deliberate HR sabotage...easily done, btw.

..."manage your own career" was the advice given to me at the outset of my career...and it was the only HR sensible advice I ever received.
