These are the salaries you could command in financial technology

Financial technologists have enjoyed salary rises over the last 12 months as increased demand and counter-offers drove up pay. As we've mentioned previously, though, this hasn't necessarily amounted to more overall compensation because of shrinking bonuses.

But among an general increase in base pay, it seems that developers - particularly those with C++ skills - have enjoyed the largest rise, as the figures from Robert Walters' latest salary survey below show, with a 20k uplift on last year at the senior end.

Why is this? Adam Pizzie, manager - IT at Robert Walters, says it's down to a combination of increased demand for their services, reduced bonus potential, counter-offers and a dwindling supply of talent.

"Development staff in financial services generally saw an uptick in demand, across Java, C# and C++," he says. "But the fact that a number of people who would have previously considered themselves C++ developers have switch across to other programming languages has left something of a shortfall."

Below is the breakdown of what salary Robert Walters suggests you should be earning in financial IT:

you will probably find that Robrt Walters don't do much tier 1 or 1st quartile in any sector, hence the range...

Multiply the top end of these scales by 2 and they would be more accurate for large US investment banks

these are not given as averages they are given as a scale... and as scales they are incorrect.

IT auditors are in demand at the moment, I have been approached for jobs paying around 90k for associate level jobs. However the market rate in London is around 60K+

It's obvious that these figures are taken as an average for the whole banking and finance market across Retail, Corporate and investment Banking as well as the buy side / consultants / vendors. Obviously the Investment Banks pay higher and the Tier 1 US banks generally pay the most. In addition certain skills such as derivatives and front office projects will pay more in all organisations.
