Evercore is hiring; how you might get a job there
Evercore is hiring!! Last week, it released its fourth quarter results. It also said it wants to expand in Europe.
This expansion is likely to take two forms:
1) Hiring partner-level people into M&A
According to Financial News, Evercore's only got 5 partners in London and wants a few more.
2) Hiring all sorts of people into its new equities business
Evercore set up its global equities business last July. It wants to hire some more people (low double digits) and is particularly keen on equity researchers. (Financial News says it needs 10-15 extra researchers to cover financial institutions and TMT, although this isn't restricted to London).
If you've always aspired to work at Evercore, however, it's not immediately clear how you can explore these opportunities. The firm isn't advertising any roles on its careers site and says it's appointed two search firms to deal with its expansion plans.
Most headhunters in London claim absolutely no knowledge of Evercore's aspirations, however, which is odd. The usual international suspects (Russell Reynolds, Korn/Ferry International, Heidrick & Struggles) don't appear to be involved; nor do specialist equities boutiques.
So who is shepherding Evercore's European expansion? Rumour has it that it might be Sainty Hird & Partners, with whom the bank's understood to have a 'relationship.' Sainty Hird declined to comment.
In M&A at least, getting a foot in the Evercore door could be challenging. During last week's conference call, chief executive Ralph Schlosstein, said they only hire people who can bring in an average of $10m a year in revenues and will pass on anyone who's not an A* performer.
At a more junior level, recruiters allege that Evercore works its M&A analysts and associates exceptionally hard, suggesting that not everyone might want to work there anyway. "In my experience, they have a very high turnover rate," claims one.
Evercore didn't return a call asking for comment.
