Financial services professionals in Ireland facing two years without a pay rise

This shouldn't come as a huge surprise in these austere times, but the vast majority financial services professionals in Ireland received no salary increases in 2010, and 2011 is already tipped to be another belt-tightening year for the industry.

Recruiter Morgan McKinley has unveiled its 2011 salary survey, and financial services pay packets in Ireland have remained relatively unchanged since 2009. Sadly, employers seem unlikely to dig any deeper this year.

There are a few exceptions, where certain key areas have seen "moderate" salary increases. These include within the fund administration sector, compliance, risk management and for those employed by international banks.

"Job flow and therefore salaries are static in most areas associated with domestic banking and financial services while international FS companies are in growth mode and are offering competitive salaries and packages to attract staff," says Matt Doyle, financial services consultant at Morgan McKinley in Ireland.

Here's what you should be expecting in a selected number of financial services roles in Ireland:

Another couple of hours overtime last night.

In two weeks I am already better off than I was last year.

Keep this quiet ....shhhhhh, but this website - and alot of newspapers helped me massively this past year.

They complained and moaned so much about the small immaterial bonuses being paid by some banks to junior staff that the bank decided (illegally) no to pay them (yet).

Now, the bank has had no choice but to scrap the "bonus" policy, this I can totally understand.

However, this is where the last laugh is with me instead of at me (for a change) - and many many other people with the bank. They have now had to pay us overtime.

Happily, this vastly outweighs average bonuses received.

    For this, I thank you.
