Lateish Lunchtime Links: FIG on fire; lack of sleep makes you ugly

FIG has been an area of hiring for some time. Today, it was given a fillip. The Bank for International Settlements calculated that banks need to raise €577bn to comply with new global regulatory standards and that 'Group 1' banks with over €3bn in capital will need an extra €177bn in common equity to meet absolute minimum standards.

Right on cue, Jefferies has been doing a spot of FIG hiring. Despite the proximity of bonus payments, it's achieved 8 new FIG bankers, 6 of whom are from BarCap (only 1 is in London). The bank says it has a global strategy to 'significantly expand' its presence in the FIG sector.
