JPMorgan's giving its associates iPads. Jealous?

Junior investment bankers at JPMorgan have something in common with journalists at the Financial Times: both are being given iPads by their employers.

The FT has been handing out vouchers to enable its staff to purchase iPads. Bloomberg reports that JPMorgan is handing out the actual iPads themselves.

The programme is merely a pilot and won't extend to everyone. Associates in investment banking will get the iPads soon and will be able to keep them until April, when the trial programme expires. At this point, it's not clear whether they'll be obliged to give them back.

Standard Chartered, Bank of America, and Citigroup have been trialling the iPhone. But JPMorgan's thought to be the only bank to have gone for the Pad. If they want to maintain their appeal to MBAs other banks may be obliged to offer equivalent gadgetry soon.

    I guess iPads and iPhones are pretty natural choices for iBanks...

    @Michael
    Most businesses including JP still use BB's (probably more so than Iphones) and it would seem like a natural habitat for RIM to market the tablet. They may not use O.T.T. technological advances, but enough to get the job done.

    Right moment? I think RIM is close to finishing a viable product with a launch date early next year. Besides, Apple is also thinking about launching an updated iPad, suggesting they know it can be eclipsed by other brands with better features.

    Magician you seem to be under the patently false assumption that RIM is capable of producing a viable alternative and is what? Just waiting for the right moment?

    I wonder if Ipad is for a bonus payment this year!

    The iPad will allow employees to work on projects away from desks and have a more dynamic access to emails that most handsets would not be able to offer.

    But I see R.I.M. working hard not to let Apple take their share in BB's traditional environment by really building up their own tablet.
