FRIDAY'S KILLER QUESTION: There are one hundred closed doors in a corridor

There are one hundred closed doors in a corridor. The first person who walks along the corridor opens all of the doors. The second person changes the current state of every second door starting from the second door by opening closed doors and closing open doors. The third person who comes along changes the current state of every third door starting from the third door.

This continues until the 100th person.

At the end, how many doors are closed and how many open?

ANSWER:

This is a question about how many divisors a number has. For example the 15th door is divisible by one, three, five and fifteen. So it will be opened, closed, opened, closed. Ending up closed. What about door 37?

Thirty seven is only divisible by one and 37. But again it will end up closed. Since only squares have an odd number of divisors we have to count how many squares there are from one to 100. Of course, there are only ten.

    10 doors are open: 1st, 4th, 9th, 16th, 25th, 36th, 49th, 64th, 81st, and 100th. All others closed.

    10 open, 90 closed, the reasons above are correct.

    ..Ok Guys this is how it works. The whole thing is about the factors of the number of the door. If it has even factors it will be open and if odd it will be closed after the 100th guys has gone through. Exception being door no 1 which has only 1 factor ie 1 but will remain open as starting position iam considering is after guy 1 has walked through.For example Take door no 2. It has only 1 factor ie 2. Therefore it will toggle to close position when guy no 2 walks through and will not change poisition after this. Ditto for 3 , 5 , 7 13 etc when guy no 3,5,7,13 walk through etc. Now consider door no 4. It has 2 factors ie 2 and 4. so when guy no 2 comes he will close it and when guy no 4 comes he will open it. So at the end it will remain open. This all works out to
    No of open doors = 49
    No of close doors = 51

    No doors will be open.

    The credit crisis of 2007/2008 made sure of this.... closed doors and brick walls for everyone. Except for us hedge fund maestros and my insider dealing chums from the M&A dept at Goldman Succks/
