Late Lunchtime Links: Morgan Stanley wants to hire in fixed income; Jefferies wants to hire in trading; win $1m with maths

Morgan Stanley's big trading push didn't come to much in the third quarter, but this hasn't discouraged it from wanting to build its fixed income business.

Nomura's new US banking analyst Glenn Schorr has been meeting with Morgan Stanley management and he says they want to hire.

Specifically, Schorr says they want to hire salespeople and traders, particularly for rates and FX. Apparently MS management thinks its 9 months into a revamp which could take about two years.

Separately, The Deal notes that Jefferies wants to sell $500m of five year notes and that it may use the proceeds for, "hiring talent and perhaps expanding trading operations."

And finally, if you don't want to take your chances with Morgan Stanley or Jefferies, you could attempt to solve any one of six intractable maths questions, which the Guardian points out will earn you $1m in prize money.
