Investment banks that are STILL recruiting graduates
If you're just thinking about applying for an investment banking graduate place now, it's safe to say your options are fairly limited. However, some banks are still keen to hear from graduate applications, especially if you're looking to get into IT.
Most of the major investment banks have closed their full-time analyst recruitment programmes to applications, but although the clock is ticking for those that remain open, opportunities are still available.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the banks that have been upping their graduate intake for 2011 are still interested in hearing from students. Royal Bank of Scotland, for instance, has drastically increased its graduate intake this year, and it's still open to applications until 6 December.
The deadline for Credit Suisse is on 30 November, but rest assured it's still recruiting and Nomura is open to applications until early December.
"We've increased our intake for 2011 by around 10-15% on this year, which has meant that we still have vacancies leading up to the deadline," says Sally Whitman, head of graduate recruitment at Credit Suisse. "IT roles been particularly challenging to fill, because candidates need to come armed with the technical skills and also many may not have thought of investment banking as their first career choice."
Both Nomura and RBS say that IT are currently taking longer to fill as they look for the right calibre of grads.
At an experienced level, many banks - most notably Credit Suisse, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and RBS - have been bolstering their technology teams throughout this year. This increase in graduate numbers is reflective of the growing importance of technology in investment banking.
