GUEST COMMENT: Is this normal behaviour for headhunters?

A headhunter recently called me out of the blue about a search she was doing. I set up an appointment to talk to her. We talked for an hour. I sent her my CV, some materials, some references to me on the web, etc. I then heard nothing.

I sent her an email after a couple of weeks and again heard nothing.

Then about a month after we talked, I got an email saying she was going to meet with the person doing the hiring and she'd get back to me "next week."

That was a month ago. I sent her an email about two weeks after the meeting asking what was up and still haven't had a reply.

Remember, this was not a case where I sent off my CV unsolicited to a headhunting firm; it was a case where she headhunted me and I made time in my schedule to talk to her and send her the materials she asked for.

Can't people bother to get back to the candidates, even just to say "sorry, the client was looking for XXX and you weren't a good fit"? This has happened to me several times before. This is the first time, however, that they've even failed to answer my emails.

Is this normal?

Regards,

Fed Up

Recruitment agencies are often the best coverage for doing subtle intelligence work in information search. I wouldn't trust them or answer directly each of their inquiry either.

I've had stranger experience this summer. A headhunter arranged an interview at an investment bank, I went through the rounds, and was told that they like me a lot and are about to make me an offer, so I should cancel the interview another headhunter had arranged at another IB. That was the last I heard from her - from 'they are about to make you an offer' to disappearing completely.

Let's face it everybody that works in The City is on the take, it's not exactly like bankers have a great reputation in wider society either is it, what with their collectively bringing down the global economy.
