INTERNSHIP DISASTER: The licentious pitchbook
Once upon a time at a large American investment bank, there was a bubbly Irish girl who earned a summer internship within one of the M&A teams.
For most of the summer, everything went smoothly. She was on-time, willing to put up with the long hours and never complained when given a mundane task which could have been completed by a worker at the local McDonalds. Her hard work earned her the respect of her fellow team members so that they gave her more responsibility as the summer progressed.
It was around this time that she was assigned to a pitch for one of the major consumer goods clients. As with any pitchbook, the intern found herself working till the early hours of the morning of the pitch. One of her tasks was to insert a picture of the omnipresent mascot for a certain food company, the Jolly Green Giant. As her eyes began to blur from staring into Powerpoint for five hours too long, she quickly downloaded and inserted the first picture which appeared and carried on with her work. She could finally rest once the books had been sent to the printers, ready to collect by some lucky analyst a few hours later.
Later that morning, the managing director and team members arrived at the client's office and began flipping through the pitchbook. As they turned to the page with the Jolly Green Giant, something seemed out of place. Yes, there was certainly something different about this giant. Indeed, it was apparent that he had a massive male organ which was staring at the bankers and clients on the crisp A4 pitchbook paper.
In her sleep-deprived state, this intern had carelessly inserted this particularly well-endowed "giant." Fortunately, this mistake provided much amusement to the the bankers and clients and she was able to still earn a place in the next year's analyst class. Ah the days of the bull market.
