This is how much you can earn as a lawyer in a financial services firm

For any lawyers who are contemplating moving inhouse and ingratiating themselves with an investment bank, we have some figures on legal pay.

They come courtesy of legal recruitment firm Laurence Simons and reflect the results of a survey of 273 inhouse lawyers in financial services firms.

The figures are fairly general - there's no discrimination between a lawyer working on equity derivatives contracts and a lawyer working in building services, for example. They do, however, give a ballpark idea of what might be expected.

The figures also make it fairly clear that even highly experienced lawyers in banks are paid considerably less than front office bankers. While banking MDs are being paid salaries of 300k+, banking lawyers with 21 years' post qualification experience are apparently on 175k.

Bonuses are also a possibility. However, only 13% of financial services lawyers get a bonus worth more than 50% of their salary.
