Is RBS the only bank planning a huge increase in graduate recruitment this year?
Royal Bank of Scotland is officially back in the graduate recruitment game, and intends to take on nearly 600 students in 2010 - double last year's intake.
In an FT article, which further supports our research suggesting banks are upping grad recruitment in 2010, RBS said it plans on hiring 596 students this year.
Admittedly, this is across all business areas, which includes retail banking and technology as well as its global markets division. However, it seems to be one of the few banks committing to significantly increasing graduate numbers this year.
UBS is planning a similar number to RBS, but this represents only a third more than 2009. Barclays, meanwhile, intends to increase graduate recruits by 20% while Citi is upping its intake by just 15% on last year.
RBS is, however, still struggling somewhat to attract students to these bountiful opportunities.
Here are some of the hard figures around grad recruitment:
Royal Bank of Scotland: hiring 596 graduates, or double its 2009 intake.
UBS: Planning a similar intake to RBS, bringing numbers back to pre-crisis levels.
Citi: 330 graduates and interns in EMEA, or a 15% uptick on last year.
Barclays: Hiring 20% more than 2009, having gradually increased intake since the crisis hit.
