Would you join RBS?
If you're still looking for a graduate position or summer internship for 2010, now may be the time to consider the British government's most favourite bank.
Royal Bank of Scotland has done rather well in trading today.
According to its graduate website it also still has full time graduate vacancies available for 2010 in operations, technology and restructuring (based in Birmingham), plus a large array of summer internship positions across its banking and global markets business.
At a presentation to students at the London School of Economics last year, Melanie Loveday, RBS campus recruitment manager, said RBS planned to double the number of summer and Easter interns it hires for 2010. 450 interns are intended across the bank as a whole.
However, in a possible sign that RBS is struggling to get students to commit to joining it, the bank felt the need to send a reassuring email from John Hourican, head of global banking and markets, to its potential candidates at the end of last year.
"Despite what you might have read or heard in the media, we have a clear strategy in place," said Hourican. "Graduates and interns will have a big part to play."
The implication may be that if you can prove you're keen to join RBS (click here for tips on conveying enthusiasm), RBS will be keen to have you.
