What MD pay used to look like and what it looks like now

The analysts at Sanford Bernstein have produced a helpful table on how managing directors at US banks used to get paid and how they will get paid this year and forevermore. In both cases the (hypothetical) total comes to $2m. These days, MDs just have to wait a bit longer for it.

Totally depends - at the top of the market there were plenty of VP-level traders/salesguys earning > $1m
Market has changed but it is still very much down to where you work and how much you make - at third tier banks there are directors and MDs who'd think xmas had come early on some of dave's numbers.
rule of thumb = number of years in market * 100,000 = $ total compensation and you're doing ok

base GBP 60-80
bonus GBP 50-150
vp
base GBP 80-150
bonus GBP 100-350
reckon this captures 90% of street.

Please also consider analysts per bank...
E.g. at BNP, SocGen analyst still get a poor 36K whereas RBS, ML, Citi pay 60K for 1st year analyst
