BarCap rumoured to be hiring 800 tech people in the first six months of 2010

This is only a rumour, it has not been substantiated by BarCap (who have yet to respond to our request for comment), but we hear that the House of Diamond has some very substantial technology hiring plans for the first half of 2009.

According to two independent recruitment sources, Barclays Capital intends to hire 800 tech people between January and June next year. The alleged push is expected to apply to all asset classes, with a specific emphasis on FX.

If so, early 2010 could prove a busy time for technology candidates and recruiters. The head of technology recruitment at one large agency says RBS, Nomura and HSBC are also warming up for some substantial tech hiring.

"2009 was all about pricing in the front office. Next year, we expect far more investment in the back office, trade processing, and risk-related IT roles," he says.

At least a part of that IT hiring in Barclays is going to or already is taking place in Prague, not London

So does that mean that there are 8 new front office positions, since you need 100 back office (including IT) staff to support every one front office revenue generator...?

I have interviewed through Real Global Markets at Barcap - they always seem to have a really good idea about what's happening down there.
