Daily Dispatches: Government considers more cash for regional banks

Australian struggling securitisation market has forced the Rudd Government to extend further support to the country's cash-starved small home lenders. As the major banks continue to tighten their stranglehold on the $1 trillion mortgage market, Treasurer Wayne Swan yesterday announced the Government may provide up to $8bn of funding support to regional banks, building societies and niche lenders. And new research shows bank customers are losing out on millions of dollars worth of interest, because they don't have enough confidence in smaller banks. That's despite them sometimes offer higher interest rates. (Sky News)
