Most of you expect to be paid more in 2009
Given 2008 bonuses were generally low by historical standards, this may not come as a great surprise, but a small majority of you expect to earn more this year than you did last.
According to the results to our recent survey, completed by nearly 500 people, 52% of you are expecting to be paid more this year than in 2008; 24% expect less, and 24% expect the same.
Of those expecting to earn more, 45% expect the increase to exceed 25%.
The survey also reflects the fact that changes to banks' compensation systems have so far been comparatively minor. Only 44% of you have had your base salaries increased, and just 25% say your bonuses are now subject to clawbacks.
Both optimism and changes to compensation systems were more prevalent among respondents earning in excess of 125k. 63% in this category expected their bonuses to be higher this year. 58% said their salary had risen. And 35% said they're now subject to clawbacks.
