New bank to add 100 jobs in Scotland

The new Virgin Bank is looking to capitalise on the raft of bankers coming out of Scotland's two largest players by recruiting up to 100 staff for an Edinburgh office.

The Scottish capital is being used as a base for the new bank's head office and currently has around 30 staff working there. It's following a similar tack to Tesco Personal Finance, in that it is currently recruiting for senior and risk management positions before looking to build its team lower down the ranks.

Sources close to the situation told The Scotsman that the eventual target is to recruit 100 staff in a standalone mortgage operation.

A spokesperson for the bank says: "There is a great pool of talent in the job market in Edinburgh. We expect a good response because of our brand and the current climate in the banking sector."

It's already tapped RBS for its new chief executive, having recruited Jayne-Anne Gadhia, who was previously managing director of the bank's consumer finance arm.
