Survey results: Almost everyone still wants to work in banking

It hasn't been an easy 22 months, but this doesn't appear to be dissuading you from working in financial services.

Results to our most recent survey, completed by 425 people in the City, show that despite redundancies and the prospect of more layoffs to come, 88% of you still have every intention of working in financial services when the economy rebounds.

Your greatest motivations for sticking around are pay and professional challenge, although 21% of you intend to work in the industry because you're ill equipped to do much else.

The survey also revealed that only a small minority (34%) of unemployed bankers are claiming Jobseekers Allowance, and that 36% have enough savings to get by for at least 12 months. However, 9% have no savings at all.

57% of you think your organization will either definitely or probably make more redundancies in the next 12 months (despite our protestations to the contrary). And only 44% of you expect City employment to recover to 2006 levels in the next ten years.

Elvira: That's unfortunate, because I think you missed your true vocation as an English language teacher.

    That is very correct.
Someone like me who do banking since so much time cannot think of doing other boring jobs in any city different from London.
