Bank of Ireland has cut 1,035 people in 2009

Bank of Ireland features quite prominently on the league table of financial services redundancies so far this year, but other Irish banks have yet to register union Unite's job cuts round up.

The bank has chopped 1,035 people between January and April of this year, according to Unite, which has published the (very long) list of financial services job cuts in an attempt to highlight the plight of the industry.

"The financial services industry must ensure that it protects its workforce in order to stand a chance of emerging from the current crisis, workers are their greatest asset," says Rob MacGregor, Unite national officer.

Surely this is misleading, Merrill Lynch don't even have 1900 people in Ireland! And maybe I'm not reading it correctly but it mentions BOI as having cut 600 people?
