How much do you earn compared to everyone else?

Following this week's claims that there can't possibly be only 350,000 people earning more than 150k in the UK, here's something to resolve the issue.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies' where do you fit in calculator shoes where you rank in the UK according to your net income and number of dependents. We've referred to it before (it's not clear whether it's been updated since then), but it seems a good time to have another look.

If you're into comparative income and you earn more than 100k, the results are likely to be appealing. A single person with no dependents, paying 2,500 a year in council tax ranks totally off the chart.

    AG,

Ignorance is bliss, so its no wonder stupid people are "happier" than higher quality people.

My word, a lot of you need to get some (real) friends and get out more. A lot of you are boasting about earning so much money and being of a higher moral standing than the 'uneducated masses', a lot of whom are seemingly much more happy!

The comments are hilarious. Anyway, my two-pence worth:

As first-generation child of immigrants (from the colonies who were invited to come and work in the UK because the natives wouldn't!) I have no real home country outside the UK - the country of my parents is a foreign place. I bought into the UK, I studied hard and managed to do well at a private school through the Conservative Party's assisted places scheme (which Labour abolished!), eventually making it to Oxford and a few years later banking. I am appalled at the recent budget by Messrs. Brown and Darling. They are disincentivising people like me. Add to that the fact that the generally uneducated masses, in times of hardship, will look at me as a foreigner and make me feel unwelcome in the only place I know - is it any wonder that people like me will want to leave? Hence I end up subscribing to Henry's view also. And that is a shame.

Niv- careful, as the "Columbian" clearly isn't a "Colombian", but a maker-of-mischief.
