Survey results: Front office perfomers got paid; you WANT bonuses to be reformed
We're now free to share the results of the survey you participated in a few weeks ago. They suggest that mid-ranking and senior front office bankers did well out of the last bonus round, to the possible detriment of people in the middle and back office. They also show that a majority of you would actually welcome bonus reform.
At the last count, here are the key findings by category -
On 2008 bonuses
· 36% of all of respondents got a higher bonus for 2008 than for 2007
· 23% of all respondents got no bonus at all for 2008
· 41% of all respondents got a lower bonus for 2008 than 2007
On handouts to the front office
· 36% of people in the front office got a higher bonus than for 2007
· 34% of people in the back office got a higher bonus than for 2007
· 30% of people in the middle office got a higher bonus than for 2007
Senior front office bankers received the most generous increases -
· 38% of front office respondents with 6-10 years' experience were paid more than last year; the median bonus in this category was 25-75k.
· 37% of front office respondents with 10-15 years' experience were paid more than last year; the median bonus in this category was also 25-75k.
On bonus reform
· 62% of all of you think bonuses need reforming; the same goes for bankers in the front office.
· 57% of front office people and 56% of all respondents think bonuses contributed to the situation we now find ourselves in.
