Lunchtime Links: Several places are HIRING

It may be snowing. You may be stuck in the house sipping condensed chicken soup and hot Ribena, but there is something to be cheerful about - a few institutions are adding staff. Financial News is the bearer of the good tidings. It's already known that Bar Cap is hiring in cash equities, but FN says it's also hiring in ECM and M&A, with plans to expand in France, Italy and the UK. If this is not excitement enough, the paper also says that Mediobanca has hired 20 people in London and intends to expand in Germany and Spain. And Infinity Capital markets (which told us it was drowning in CVs last September), has hired 22 traders since October.

I don't see anything wrong with a 60k job if it doesn't come with the stress and workload of investment banking. its a trade-off, you can actually have a lunchbreak, and have weekends off, plus go on a holiday and turn your phone off. Arrogance is not going to get you anywhere, and while surviving on past bonuses is nice, it also shows a lack of ambition. How is a two-year hole in your CV going to look to a new employer? Maybe try some volunteering in parts of the world that need it, it may open your eyes to reality!

"Lowering ones pay would be an utter failure".

To the poster above "Redundant and Miserable" its a new world now fella
Average employees will not be paid significant salaries and bonuses for doing mundane jobs or for gambling with others money. Wake up and see that salaries of 40-60 will probably become the new norm .Those lucky enough to be in employment at the higher rates..lucky you but do realise that umpteen hundreds will do your jobs for less.

Ref Infinity Capital Markets.....real salary or some sort of salary split affair...suspect the latter..if thats the case , i can assure you there are hundreds of roles going at "the arcades" but few would call them proper jobs !!!

A lot of the available jobs are on 40-60k salaries. No self-respecting banker would go from their 100k+bonuses job to a 40-60k one. Its just psychologically impossible to do. I've been offered a lot of jobs since being made redundant from Lehman but I can't cope with earning a multiple less than what I previously did. Will continue to sit it out surviving on past bonuses til something matches, lowering one's pay would be an utter failure.
