Goldman Sachs: investment banking (internship)

Question

Why do you want to work in investment banking?

Candidate's answer

I said it was more interesting than what I was doing now because it was more client focused with each situation requiring a different solution. I emphasised my desire to work with people as well as numbers.

Question

Give me and example of a time you (personally) failed.

Candidate's answer

Interviewer wanted an example of a personal (not a team) failure. I spoke about a time I failed a music exam and how tough it was to pick myself up again.

Question

How many people in America own tennis balls?

Candidate's answer

Just talked through it logically using simple numbers for population and simple percentages. He didn't seem to care about the figure, just how I got there.

These questions were provided to us by a candidate claiming to have interviewed at the institution named above. We cannot guarantee that these were the actual questions asked.
