Here's our updated listing of events for professionals "in transition," slated for the next few weeks. The following events take place in New York City, and most are free.

The New York Society of Security Analysts hosts "Career Chat" panels one evening each month. Admission is $20 for non-members, free to members. Advance registration is required (for information, call (212) 541-4530 or see www.nyssa.org ).

Thursday, Jan. 22, 5:30 p.m. networking; panel discussion 6:15 -7:45: "Mid-Career Career Changes." Speakers include career coaches and people who succeeded in changing careers. NYSSA, 1177 Avenue of the Americas (between 45th and 46th Streets), 2nd Floor. Deadline to register is Jan. 20.

Thursday, Feb. 12, 5:30 p.m. networking; panel discussion 6:15-7:45: "Practical Guide To Starting A Firm." Register by Feb. 9.

Career coach Win Sheffield will present the following free talks:

Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.: "Let Your Accomplishments Speak for You." Mid-Manhattan Library, 455 Fifth Avenue at 40th Street.

Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 - 2:15 p.m.: "Build Your Job Search Strategy," by scoping out how employers think, what they're looking for and how to explain what you want. Science, Industry, and Business Library, 188 Madison Avenue at 34th Street.

Also on Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and 2:30 - 3:15 p.m.: "Network into the Hidden Job Market." Who to talk to, how to build relationships to get the information you need, and how to talk to people to help them help you. Science, Industry, and Business Library, 188 Madison Avenue at 34th Street.

And, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church has two free "career success" events coming up:
