Lehman interns might get jobs, but lose pay
Another update on the situation for the relatively few people who interned at Lehman Brothers in London last summer and managed to get a job offer at the end of it.
According to Lehman insiders, the situation with Nomura is now looking fairly promising - at least for 2008 interns who were offered full-time positions in investment banking and equities starting in September 2009. "They're definitely going to be looking to take from the 2009 group. We're just waiting for confirmation on numbers," says one.
Separately, some of Lehman's summer interns are said to be still waiting to be paid for work they did before the company went into administration.
"I haven't been paid for my final two weeks as well as my holiday," says one. "I'm owed around 2.1k."
PricewaterhouseCoopers, which is dealing with the administration of Lehman, paid people from 15 to 30 September, but Lehman's interns are owed pay dating back from 21 August to 31 August.
Extracting the money is going to be hard. "HR said we'd definitely be paid by the end of September, but when we try and call now, all our HR contacts have left. No one knows what's going on. My accountant's advised me to put a claim in to PwC," says the intern.
