Fidelity Names Asset Management Head
Fidelity Investments said it hired Michael E. Wilens from Thomson Reuters as head of asset management. He'll oversee the firm's three major investment divisions - Fidelity Management & Research Company (FMRCo), Pyramis Global Advisors and Strategic Advisers - and will direct the investment technology and operations areas.
At Thomson Reuters, Wilens was named executive vice president - strategy, technology and innovation in April 2008, responsible for corporate strategy development and implementation, especially in the area of technology infrastructures, platforms and innovation. Before the merger with Reuters, he was Thomson's chief technology officer, and previously was president and chief executive of Thomson Legal & Regulatory's North American Legal organization. Wilens holds an M.B.A. and an M.S. in computer science from the University of Michigan, and an S.B. and S.M. in electrical engineering from MIT.
Wilens will join Fidelity in mid-July and will be a member of the executive committee.
"For some time now, we have been looking for an exceptional executive to provide cohesive oversight of Fidelity's three major investment divisions," said Fidelity President Rodger A. Lawson, to whom Wilens will report. "As the range of investment products and services offered by these groups grows more diverse, we need a highly experienced business leader who can offer in-depth management expertise and guidance to the executives directly in charge of our investment experts."
