I used to work for the big4 (EY) until i qualified and then 2 yrs after, as i thought it was a decent job at the time and a nice environment to work in. However i then was offered a position at Goldmans in Compliance dept and some of you may think still boring, but this job is still so much more dynamic, interesting and im working with and around much more ambitious people.

Looking back i really regret starting out at the big4 as i could have applied for this straight and when ur working there your kind of stuck, theres no easy travel opportunities and the work is soo dull! Also i had to put alot of effort into applications/agencies to get this role at Goldmans.

Advice... stick at it and apply for 2009 graduate entry instead of settling for Accountancy. Maybe try and do some temping ANYWHERE to add to your CV.

    Michael :-) Weldone!

Anyway, just wanted to share experiences about Big 4.

I am also one of those guys brainwashed with all the I-banking staff.
But when the crisis hit, I quickly went for a Big 4. I got a job in Corporate Finance at PwC. And you know what I have to tell you - that was great!
First of all PwC as a company is a nice place to work. My colleagues were all bright and clever (and I loved that the most). They were not arrogant at all (like most of the guys in IB).
I was suddenly exposed to so much. I was given responsibility. I did not expect that myself. I was amazed. There is no way I would get that in IB.
Was responsible for a creation of a Private Equity fund in developing world, went to Moscow etc. It's been a very nice experience.
Then suddenly was invited for an interview with Morgan Stanley. (Still waiting for response)
You know wot? They are recruiting big time! The only thing - not on London. Only in developing world. That job I was intervied for was in Almaty. Still, it's Morgan Stanley.

Anyway, I left both PwC and waiting for Morgan Stanley to start a graduate job with Reuters. Haven't yet started but very excited about it.
