UBS: Equity research interview (graduate)
Question:
Why did you go to Oxford instead of the LSE?
Candidate's answer:
Oxford's programme was very attractive, and one of the few finance master's I could find which would consider candidates with a liberal arts background.
Question:
Why do you think you will be able to research companies in Europe when you are from the US? What sort of credibility can you have if you don't know the culture?
Candidate's answer:
I was annoyed about this inflammatory question, but I did my best to answer in an honest, professional way. I said that since I have travelled extensively, I am not concerned about bridging cultural gaps, given my strong communications skills and ability to build relationships with people.
