If you wish to include a profile in your CV, ensure that it delivers in a few lines a strong and unique introduction. Be wary of unsubstantiated superlatives - eg, good team worker, excellent communication skills - as these appear on many CVs.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS
List your academics starting with the most recent, including dates and university.
MA Industrial Relations, University of XYZXYZ, 2003
Capture your dissertation, along with recommendations, findings and whether it has been used - ie, for further research - or if the company being studied has taken these up; be wary of listing modules as these are generic to the course rather than specific to you.
BSc International Studies, University of XYZXYZ, 2002
Again, include any projects or dissertations that support your application; if team projects, highlight your contributions.
A Levels: List subjects (and include grades, for organisations which may count UCAS points)
GCSEs: List subjects and grades. Also highlight any distinctions, or exams taken a year early.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
· Consider areas from your course where you received recognition for your achievements, for example, 'Awarded a scholarship ...,' 'Recommended for place on xxx course.'
· Capture university society memberships and positions of responsibility including your contributions, for example, 'Elected Secretary of Rowing Club and secured XYZ funding enabling purchase of new equipment,' 'Represented study group on Student/Tutor Committee and negotiated library for sole use of MBA students to provide private study area.'
· Include industry sector-specific experience/placements, for example, 'Secured summer internship with XYZ bank within corporate finance team; researched data for analysts' use to support structuring of high value financing.'
· Think of any projects which may highlight key skills, for example, 'Completed degree project having undertaken research at company XYZ, including conducting targeted interviews with senior managers to gather key data which delivered XYZ findings.'
· Consider other significant successes which may demonstrate key skills, for example, 'Influenced team members to revisit their approach to XYZ project, which was successfully completed to time and within financial constraints (listing figures behind these where possible).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Dates, Company, Role
· Be careful not to just list roles and responsibilities which are generic for everyone else doing a similar role; focus on how effective you were at doing the job.
· For example, dealt with telephone enquiries from over 100 customers weekly and provided advice on cost-effective and best energy solutions.
· Provided weekly management reporting to area managers on levels of enquiries and conversion rates to effectively track team performance; collated information daily from team leaders and input on to spreadsheets to enable easy retrieval.
Dates, Company, Role
· Provided excellent customer service within a 100-seater restaurant, including advising on menu options and successfully up-selling additional side orders and drinks.
· Demonstrated strong health & safety awareness through ensuring food preparation and handling regulations adhered to.
· Delivered service recovery including offering alternative options and providing discount vouchers to encourage repeat business.
· Provided training to new staff on service standards and menu options to ensure consistent high levels of service delivered.
INTERESTS
Provide examples of your interests which can demonstrate additional unique points about you. For example, rather than just 'Running', consider 'Completed two half marathons, raising over 500 for a local children's hospital.' If you have spent time travelling, include countries and how trip was funded, for example, 'Spent six months travelling throughout Asia including securing periods of bar work to enable to finance further.'
