Asian MDs on top at Goldman Sachs

Asia looks like the place to be if you want to scale the heights at Goldman.

The bank's latest list of managing director (MD)-promotes, posted on its website yesterday, contains more than the usual smattering of Asian names.

Of a record 299 new Goldman MDs, 17% are from Asia ex-Japan (including India). At present, just 7% of the firm's MDs are in the region, implying (albeit tenuously) that senior Goldman bankers in Asia ex-Japan have a greater chance of being promoted.

By comparison, Goldman's US executive directors appear to be becoming progressively less popular. A total of 59% of the firm's current MDs are based in the US and the Americas, while only 43% of its new promotes are on the same continent as Wall St....

    If you read the linked article you'll see it says goldman will make more MDs, but other banks won't.

    Duh.
