Rising stars: add sparkle to your CV
The Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland (CIOBS) has launched a new competition to unearth the rising stars of Scottish banking.
It's being sponsored by Deloitte, the big four accountancy firm, and is open to all CIOBS members. The winner (who rises the highest) will get a two week foreign holiday. But the long term career benefits from being singled out from peers could last far longer than a fortnight in the sun.
What makes a rising star? Unfortunately that's for the judges to decide. Commenting at the launch, Professor Charles Munn, chief executive at CIOBS said the aim is to identify who'll be the stars of Scottish banking tomorrow.
If you want to enter it will help if you can encourage your boss to nominate you. Failing that, you can always nominate yourself. Entries close on 30 March 2007. All nominations will be reviewed by judges from the CIOBS, with the best eight nominees invited to a semi-final stage, at which they'll have to make a short nomination and will be interviewed by a panel of judges. Four will then win through to what is described a 'live final' at which the winner will be announced.
Rising star status could work wonders for your career according to the director of HR at a leading Scottish financial services provider. She told us: "When we are looking through a pile of CV's, seeing that a candidate has won or even been a finalist in a competition like this, will definitely help them stand out."
