Dodgy dealers are good news for IT risk pros

As technology profilerates, Scots finance companies must be increasingly vigilant against shady characters indulging in dodgy practices online.

Just how inextricably linked finance and technology are when tackling such risk was revealed at the recent Bill Gates gig in Edinburgh.

Michael Walsh, Scots-based executive with State Street, surprised the audience by revealing that upwards of one quarter of all his company's jobs are IT-based.

Meanwhile, London-based recruiter JP Gray reports that it's currently seeking a head of operational and IT risk for an un-named world leading bank, to head a growing team based in Edinburgh.

Managing director Jessica Gray says it carries a salary of 80k, and the successful applicant is expected to progress to director level within two years.

Although she describes this kind of opportunity as rare, Gray says there are plenty more opportunities in IT risk in Scotland, with demand is at 'unprecedented levels'. Average salaries for such roles in 'the regions' are 60k, as against 100k in London.

A quick glance at the opportunities on offer reveals State Street is looking for a senior technical analyst for its Edinburgh operation, while Deloitte (UK) is seeking Scots-based securitisation and data assurance/technology managers and consultants.
