Dundee or bust for Alliance Trust
Dundee is about to receive a jobs injection: Alliance Trust is preparing to increase its presence in the city.
The investment trust company has plans to create 160 jobs over the next three years. Most will be in Dundee, where it's had a presence since 1888.
The jobs will mostly be for administrators, although we understand there will also be roles across pensions, investment dealing and asset management - including senior fund management, marketing and pensions.
Fife commuters targeted
Gill Gattanach, head of group marketing at Alliance, tells us target candidates are particularly people who currently commute from Fife into Edinburgh (who'd be better off commuting into Dundee instead): "We are looking across quite a wide local area and we think that we will get people living on the Dundee side of the Forth Road Bridge."
Senior candidates may well come from further afield - including London and overseas. Gattanach says the company hopes its expansion may prove attractive not just to returning Scots but to anyone interested in joining a company that is undergoing major growth. Unsolicited CVs are already arriving in the post.
New HQ
The expansion will see Alliance build an all-new six story headquarters in Dundee. It's being backed by a 1.95m regional selective assistance grant form the Scottish Executive. Commenting on the deal Nicol Stephen, deputy First Minister said: "I am particularly pleased about this development because Alliance Trust is thriving in Dundee, outside our traditional financial districts, showing that you can build competitive international companies and world-class financial products throughout Scotland."
