The Carlyle Group promoted sixteen executives to managing director. Eight of the new MDs are in the U.S. and five are based in Europe.

Financial News reports that Eliot Merrill and Stephen Owens, of Carlyle's buyout business, have been promoted, as has Michael Stewart of Carlyle Strategic Partners. All are based in New York.

In the Denver-based real estate practice, David Daniel and Thomas Ray got the nod, as did Charlie Moore and Lori Sabet in Washington D.C., and Brent Whisenant, of the venture and growth capital group in San Francisco.

Carlyle also promoted 18 staff members to the rank of principal/director, the newspaper said.
