Jobs threat at HP

Irish IT jobs could be under threat following rumours that Hewlett Packard, which manages some IT functions for Bank of Ireland, is planning to offshore roles to Southern and Eastern Europe and Asia.

According to the Sunday Times, Hewlett Packard (HP) is proposing to relocate some technology jobs at the bank to India, Bulgaria, Spain and Slovakia.

200 of Bank of Ireland's employees were shifted to HP in September 2003, when the bank signed a seven year outsourcing contract with the company.

HP plans to shed up to 6000 jobs in Europe under a global restructuring scheme.
