RSA to cut 1,000 UK jobs
The UK general insurer Royal & Sun Alliance plans to cut 1,000 jobs - 10 per cent of its UK workforce - in a bid to save 130m a year.
The Telegraph reports that a third of the job losses will be in the group's retail business, a third in the brokerage arm and the remainder in business support roles.
Andy Haste, the group's chief executive, told the Financial Times that investment in new underwriting and claims systems has enabled the cuts, as has the growing popularity of internet sales with consumers.
RSA is also planning to slash 550 jobs outside the UK.
